Zoetrope "Promenade Fleurie"
Discover the first zoetrope released by Bol Vivant, an optical toy that revives the art of animation and pre-cinema.
Zoetrope - Classic
Travel back to 1834 with the Zoetrope! Rediscover the ancestor of cinema through this iconic optical toy. Inspired by the very first models, our black background version combines minimalist design with the magic of animation.
Fun and Educational Activity: Excellent for exercising creativity during family or group play. It integrates perfectly into drawing, art, or science classes, where everyone becomes the creator and observer of the optical illusion.
The Precursor to Cinema
The Zoetrope is a magnificent mechanical object, the direct ancestor of cinema, invented in 1834 by the British mathematician William George Horner. Composed of a cylinder pierced with slits, it uses the optical illusion of retinal persistence to transform a sequence of still images into a short, fluid animation.
At Bol Vivant, we reinterpret Zoetropes.
Our animation strips are original renditions, redrawn and colored by us. They draw inspiration from historical zoetrope animation strips as well as the earliest cartoons, transforming this ancestor of cinema into a contemporary work of motion art.
