Educational Toy

Scientific Understanding: Observe how the brain perceives a sequence of still images as continuous motion.

The Origins of Cinema: A fascinating starting point to explore this historical object and trace the evolution of the moving image up to the present day.

How It Works?

Simply turn the cylinder smoothly by hand, and the Zoetrope's animation will be immediately visible to the naked eye.

This phenomenon results from the stroboscopic effect: the rapid passage of the slits in front of the images creates the illusion that the images come to life, as our brain perceives the succession of fixed views as continuous motion.

Regarding lighting: The Zoetrope can be used in a normal room environment, even without bright light. However, a light source placed overhead will enhance the optical effect and the sharpness of the animation.

Note: No optical assistance (such as a phone camera) is necessary to appreciate this fascinating optical effect.
