Optical illusion
This phenomenon results from the stroboscopic effect: the rapid passage of the slits in front of the images creates the illusion that the images come to life, as our brain perceives a succession of fixed views as continuous motion.
No optical assistance (such as a phone camera) is necessary to appreciate this fascinating optical effect.
A Tribute to Early Cartoons

French Inspiration
The Zoetrope's decor is created entirely through collage, drawing direct inspiration from the French approach known as Papier Découpé and the vibrant colors of Fauvism.
